I've been living in the U.S. for more than 15 years, but all of my family and relatives are still living in Iwate Japan – one of the hardest hit states in March’s earthquake. For days I couldn't get hold of my parents. I was worried and frustrated, but my friends and colleagues at Horizon helped me stay positive during the difficult time. Fortunately, all of my family and friends were OK, but there were many families who were not so fortunate. My heart goes out to those who have lost their loved ones.
Recently, I visited Japan for the first time since the disaster. The devastating effect of the Tsunami was evident as soon as I arrived in the coastal area. The rebuilding effort is taking place, but it will take years before Iwate will return to normal. It is hard to imagine what the victims are going through.
The support we've received from the American people has just been amazing, which of course includes the support from my Horizon family. Such kindness is making a big difference as Japan slowly but surely recovers from the disaster. I feel fortunate to be able to work with those who are not only talented in their profession, but also caring and compassionate.
I just want to say, "thank you".
